About
Nickos Chortis was born in Lefkas (Greece) in 1975.
From a young age, he was a music enthusiast, especially for foreign
music. He fondly remembers eagerly waiting on Saturday mornings to
listen to "Magiko Fakelo" on the radio with Milato and Papoulia, and
later in the afternoons, tuning in to the voice of Yiannis Petridis from
4 to 5.
The musical instrument that captivated him from the very beginning was
percussion.
The only way for him to play real drums, and not just practice with
books and tabletops using forks and spoons, was to wait every year for
the local festival in Chortata. Just before the orchestra took the
stage, he would seek permission from the drummer of the moment to play
for a while!
He later became interested in keyboards. Initially, he simply learned
some pieces he liked and concurrently created simple compositions, which
he developed in the future.
Apart from music, his other great passion is comics and journalism.
In 1985, he created his first comic titled "Asoitos Yios" (Prodigal
Son). The same year, he published the handwritten newspaper "Chortiotika
Nea," which was later renamed to "Otidipote" (Anything).
It circulated regularly until 1991 at intervals. From 1997 to 2003, he
published the newspaper "CHORTATA."
In 1990, he participated in a poetry competition in memory of Dr.
Xenofon Gligoris with the poetry collection "Tachydromos tou Polemou" (Postman of War), winning the 3rd prize.
In 1991, he received an honorary distinction from the General
Secretariat for Youth in the painting competition on the theme of
Macedonia.
Nickos is a high school graduate. All his knowledge in graphic design,
music, computer science, and other interests is the result of personal
study and practice.
In 2011, after 2 years of studies at ANT1, he obtained a degree in
Journalism.
Since 2012, he has been collaborating with the Association of Chortians
of Lefkada, taking charge of setting up the reissue of the association's
newspaper "TA CHORTATA." Simultaneously, he manages the website and
social media of the newspaper.
He is married and has 2 children.
